1. Hello there - can you tell us a bit about yourself: who you are, what you do, and what has been keeping you most interested these days?
Natt: We are EAT MY TEETH and we are an anarcho-deathrock band from Warsaw, Poland. We fill the conservatives with disgust and make sure the „anarcho” part is known not only through our social media bio.
Din: I am a prophet, I was sent to this earth directly by our Lord. The machine is strong and getting stronger, its tentacles reach deep into the earth and reach even deeper into human souls. So far, the only member of my ship's crew is Samson, he seems to be the most susceptible to my rhetoric and the most willing to listen to my visions.
Samson: These days I have been following the prophecies of Din to destroy mechanical god that will consume us all in the future.
2. Who are the people behind Eat My Teeth, and how did the band first come together?
Natt: Prot plays the drums, Apolonia (or just simply Poli or Mei) plays the bass, Din and Samson are our guitarists, and I’m the vocalist and lyricist of the band. The band first started when I was still in high school, in 2021. I’m the only member remaining from its first lineup.
Samson: I play on the rhythmic/second guitar and I'm the newest member in the band. Around a year and a half ago, I went to my first EMT concert as many friends recommended it to me. After that, I quickly got dragged into local deathrock/goth scene and I became close friends with Nat nad Din. When EMT was looking for a new second guitarist Nat asked me if I wanted to join them. I couldn't play guitar, or even hold a pick correctly back then, but everyone assured me that I will quickly learn everything that I need to know in order to play on stage. I learned a lot during last year and now I am here.
3. What kind of musical and cultural backgrounds did you bring into the band?
Din: I came from an absolutely non-musical, non-artistic background, so the only thing I bring to this project is my anti-musical and abrasive nature.
Natt: In high school I took extreme vocal lessons where I learnt to do my screams. I took numerous vocal classes throughout my childhood yet without success. I think in the past life I’ve had to be some animal that makes absolutely atonal noises and probably had to take my time to unlearn that. When the band started, I began to put different vocal techniques together to hide the fact that I couldn’t actually sing at all. I used to play guitar but I don’t do that anymore. I think of myself more as of a poet and performance artist than a musician.
Samson: I didn't play guitar that much before joining the band so I feel like I am still exploring many musical paths and my own style. I like experimenting with new sounds so together with Din we often try to get our hands on new cool instruments that would be interesting for the band. Recently I managed to get my hands on Danelectro sitar and I hope that I will be able find interesting use for it in some of our future songs.
4. Do you have “normal lives” besides the band, or are you fully immersed in deathrock day and night?
Natt: What I am, I am fully and always, no matter what I do. I don’t lead a normal life and am but a human fever dream.
Apolonia: If 'normal lives' include drowning in dozens of audio files, tapes for a label of mine, diy booked shows and also trying to tend a bar to be able to fund all this, than yeah, there's some left of it <wink>, and what brought me to the band was somewhat related. Knowing me already for a previous band we were a part of, Natt asked me whether I wanted to hop on bass for Eat My Teeth, to which I said yes despite how 'outside' the scene was I at the moment and yet here we are now, couple years later, with the band actually standing for a sizable chunk of my creative output. despite already knowing and loving some of classics of what deathrock has to offer, its history and significance for many years - since first hearing Theatre of Ice uploaded to YouTube in terrible quality, alongside the good, the bad and the ugly of cross-genre collabs and friendships biggest example of which being the 80s experimental scene, as already said my existence in the scene still felt 'fresh' to me back when I joined in. Catching up on what's been happening around the deathrock scene in its modern history was like this exhausting, yet enjoyable crash course which sparked a new kind of love for the genre within myself, even if it's manifesting itself in form of listening to the same personal classics with a passion of a maniac.
Samson: Unfortunately yes. I'm studying engineering at uni and beside that I have normal 9 to 5 job. This takes a lot of my time but I kinda like this duality of "normal live" and deathrock madness of the night.
Din: There is no ,,normal life" outside the band, we have to steal to live, fight in venues and try to survive every day to be able to continue doing our art.

5. Warsaw has a long punk and goth tradition - would you say there is a new generation of goth that Eat My Teeth belongs to?
Natt: Yes, I would say that there most definitely is. With the rise of popularity of the goth subculture online in the past few years, more young people began attending the local events and associating themselves with the scene. A young local goth-punk scene has emerged. Almost everyone creates their own thing here, it’s very DIY, remains socially-charged, and extremely creative.
Samson: Definitely, there are a lot of young people that attend our concerts and are into the subculture. In Poland many young people create their own bands and try to do something by themselves. Some of the bands last longer than the others but it is cool to see that music scene is alive.
6. Which other bands are shaping the dark scene in Warsaw today, and how strong is it compared to, say, 10–15 years ago?
Natt: Din and Prot have two other projects called 25 Jesuses Of Fear and Mekanical Menagerie. Our friends from Poznań have a band called Apokalipstick. Numerous new bands are emerging. I’m too young to speak on what the scene was like 10-15 years ago.
7. Are there specific venues, DJs, promoters, or bands that helped shape the path of Eat My Teeth?
Natt: I remain extremely thankful towards Tomasz Woodraf of Return To The Batcave/Bat-cave Productions for supporting as always. I am very thankful towards all the people who promote our music in other countries.
Samson: If i had to mention one specific place in Warsaw I would mention "Chmury" club. I met a lot of people from the scene there and many cool local events organized by us or other local bands happen there. This is the place where I saw EMT for the first time. My favourite event there is "Friday I'm in Love", it is simply 80s goth/synth-pop party but many young people hang out there.
8. What are your favorite vices, and where is the best place in Warsaw to indulge them?
Samson: Sometimes I just like to get completely drunk and stoned in the club, pretty usual stuff. I like to dance a lot so I will just party all night. I often go to earlier mentioned "Chmury" club to party this way. I don't think that it is a bad thing to do until I wake up the next morning...
Natt: I like the usual and unusual stuff. I often touch upon the theme of moral corruption and its varying definitions in my lyrics, I explore this topic a lot, so many of my habits are to be easily found there. I feel a lack of alternative places in Warsaw, especially goth ones, despite it being the capital city. Besides Chmury, I like ADA Puławska.
9. What are your main influences — which bands and which eras?
Natt: I’m a huge Rozz Williams fan. I like the early deathrock, not yet restricted with any rules. And I like the 2010’s dark punk. Rather than the atmosphere of Halloween or gothic horror, I find myself in bands with sound of wet decay, who touch upon the darkness of our world and not of the imaginary ones. I enjoy numerous genres, find something for myself in many different places. I was very into visual kei as a young teenager, I still enjoy it a lot. I get fascinated with artists who pushed boundaries and created something one of a kind. Lately I’ve been obsessed with Wendy O. Williams and Kembra Pfahler.
Din: My main influences are bands like The Birthday Party, Les Tetines Noires, Lucrate Milk or Gang of Four. I'm always looking for musicians who weren't afraid to be themselves and who valued self-expression.
Samson: From the 80s, some of my favourite bands would include The Birthday Party, Tones on Tail, Specimen, Oingo Boingo, 45 Grave and The Cramps. From the deathrock revival I would mainly mention Cinema Strange, Bloody Dead and Sexy as well as Mescaline Babies. From around 2010 I really like Cemetery and from newer stuff: Cathaphiles and Shrouds.
10. How do you usually write music? Do you work on songs together during rehearsals, or does everyone bring ideas that are then assembled as a band?
Din: When it comes to songwriting, it's always a collaborative effort, everyone brings in their own ideas and contributions, and then we put it all together.
Natt: Some of us live together therefore we are always creating.
Apolonia: We mostly work on music together during rehearsals or hanging out together even if the idea's brought in by somebody. Our backgrounds and key interest being so varied, ranging from 80s goth post-punk, dark cabaret, through industrial and experimental scenes to punk and hardcore, are sometimes kind of a clash, but every so often lead to some fun and undeniably OUR results when combined together while working on music. On the topic of what surprises us within the scene - how the tides are turning and more and more bands and projects stride from the 2010s fashion of the modern approach to production including a lot of programmed electronics in the tracks and leaning towards all things raw the way I personally like. Very nice to see goth and deathrock most specifically getting thrown into mix with a whole bunch of styles and genres that haven't yet been explored enough such as black metal as seen in recent years in the US or even heavy metal and blues brought to us this year by the wonderful Poison Ruin.
11. Is there still something that can surprise you within goth or deathrock — for example discovering an old band or song you had never heard before — or are you more inspired by newer music?
Natt: I’m always discovering new stuff. I like getting surprised by the old music. I think throughout the years numerous unwritten rules have been adapted to the goth genres, and it seems to limit people’s creativity. I like new bands who escape these boxes.
Samson: I got myself more into goth and deathrock music only around 2~3 years ago so I would say that I am still discovering a lot of new stuff. Either is it a big new release or a forgotten gem from the 80s I still find it interesting. Some of the older stuff that I stumbled upon and i really like are works of Jimmy Smack or Cyan Revue.
12. Do you see your lyrics as personal, political, or more symbolic? Are there any literary or artistic influences behind the writing?
Natt: They are very symbolic, they often come from my subconcious. Therefore, they are extremely personal. And everything is political. I talk about queer experience and addiction a lot, social pressure and feelings of social exclusion. I sometimes reference other texts, I put quotes in some of our lyrics. First two lines from „Now Act Dead” are a quote from the Dada Manifesto, two first lines in „Eat My Teeth” come from „We Need to Talk About Kevin”.
Samson: Since I, Natt and Din live together, in order to help with writing new songs I sneak into Natt's room in the middle of the night and whisper random words to his ear. That way he thinks that given lyrics where given to him in his dreams by higher deities.
13. You recently released a video clip that seemed to blow people’s minds for weeks — how did the idea come about, and how difficult was it to bring it to life?
Natt: The idea and plan for the clip first emerged when we just started working together with Apolonia and Prot, as „No Harm” was the first song we wrote in this band together. The motif of burying me alive was really just a visual representation of my feelings of being „left behind” by certain people in the scene, as well as in my personal life, when I was not useful, or exploitable anymore. When it comes to the arrangement, the static shots, we wanted the uncanny and surreal effect. I personally had the work of Suehiro Maruo in my mind, and got inspired by that, I often get inspired by his work. We were lucky to work with our skilled friends, Małgorzata Tomczak, who directed and edited the video, and we’ve discussed our ideas for hours beforehand, and Aleks Stukostrach, who did the VHS shots. It took us one day to shoot it, when we began to shoot the burial scene, it was already getting dark. And we were all already tired, so we needed to re-shoot it a few times. I got a lot of cemetery soil in my mouth.
14. Did you feel that the response to the video was particularly strong? Did it open any doors for you — for example new gigs, collaborations, or other opportunities?
Natt: I think there was a strong reaction, yes, mainly positive one. It was very uplifting and motivating. I’m sure new people got to know about our existence as a band through it, I think the visual aspect does a lot. We’re very visual as a band, and I’m happy we got to showcase it in a music video. It’s difficult to determine which opportunities were brought to us thanks to the video, and which came from other places.
15. What are your plans for releasing new material?
Apolonia: New material's coming together slowly but surely and when it's going to be ready to be let loose in the wild, you're surely going to hear about it. Being huge tape freaks we are, you better grab yourselves a cassette deck in beforehand, as it may or may not be the only physical format this years music is going to be seen on, in cases of both new AND old songs we're finally putting out for everybody who wanted more after our live gigs. Concert plans stay the same as always, fill in the blind spot between punk and goth - expect us (or not!) creeping among crusties as well as startling the darkwave audiences.

16. In what formats do you plan to release it — physical, digital, or both?
Natt: As for EPs and albums, it will most definitely be released on both. The singles will rather remain digital only for now.
17. Are you fans of cassette culture, or more vinyl-oriented?
Natt: With Apolonia’s label, the continuation of tape releases is certain. I enjoy both, but personally, on daily basis, I listen to vinyl records more – but it’s mostly because I got my tape player broken…
18. Can we expect more cool Eat My Teeth videos this year?
Natt: We have numerous ideas on our minds and the time at which they see the moonlight of the night is the only question.
19. What concert plans do you have for 2026?
Natt: On the 13th of June we’re organizing the 4rd edition of the Warsaw HEX&SEX festival, and then on the 25th of June we will haunt Dark Decay Festival. In August we’ll perform at Borderline Fest, and then in September we’re going to haunt Finland for the very 1st time at Musta Juhla.
20. Are you aware of any interesting bands from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, or Austria? Do you have any memories or associations with these countries and/or bands?
Apolonia: There's been a bunch of interesting projects in the history of both art and experimental undergrounds I've been fascinated with from within the region such as Veselí Filištínové, Kampec Dolores and of course the ever-living MCH Band as well as some amazing new bands like the noise rock Sinks (big up to you guys, if you're reading this!). this being said, I also always appreciated work of local independent labels, especially when scouting record stores for cassettes while visiting Czech Republic. Shout out Stoned to Death and Korobushka Records!
Samson: At the beginning of 2026 we played in Ostrava. During that event we found out that the band that was booked to play with us was heavily using AI for their project. We are strictly against usage of AI in music or art so throughout their performance we boycotted them alongside the crowd. It was cool to see so many young people not only care about looks of the subculture but also stand firmly with the punk roots of it. After that we had really great concert, and partied with everyone form the crowd afterwards .
21. Which music album, music video, and book have impressed you the most recently?
Samson: Din's second band 25 Jeasuses Of Fear recently released video for their new single "Alienated Mind". I might be biased since I saw everything being filmed in our livingroom but it is cool to see the final effect of their recent work.
Natt: Most recently I’ve been reading „What About The Bells?”, and besides that, I keep myself buried in various occult texts. I’ve been listening a lot to „The Anti-Naturalists” by The Voluptous Horror Of Karen Black a lot lately.
22. Is there an artist or band you’d like to see interviewed on JDØS?
Natt: There are many incredible artists out there. Some I would personally love to see interviewed are El Angel Exterminador, The Last Oath and Moira Scar.
23. Thank you for the interview — any last words?
Samson: Go to your local concerts, support small local bands, do some DIY and make your own band, as I learned from experience it doesn't matter if you ever played guitar before or not.
Natt: Stay true to yourselves, don’t be afraid to speak your mind and don’t be afraid to change it. Partake in your local scene and take care of each other’s safety.

1. Ahojte – môžete sa nám trochu predstaviť: kto ste, čo robíte a čo vás v poslednom čase najviac zaujíma?
Natt: Sme EAT MY TEETH, anarcho-deathrocková kapela z Varšavy v Poľsku. Konzervatívcov napĺňame znechutením a dávame si záležať na tom, aby „anarcho“ časť nebola známa len z nášho bio na sociálnych sieťach.
Din: Som prorok, bol som poslaný na túto zem priamo naším Pánom. Stroj je silný a stále silnie, jeho chápadlá prenikajú hlboko do zeme a ešte hlbšie do ľudských duší. Zatiaľ je jediným členom mojej posádky Samson – zdá sa, že je najvnímavejší voči mojej rétorike a najochotnejší načúvať mojim víziám.
Samson: V poslednom čase nasledujem Dinove proroctvá, aby sme zničili mechanického boha, ktorý nás v budúcnosti všetkých pohltí.
2. Kto stojí za Eat My Teeth a ako sa kapela dala dokopy?
Natt: Prot hrá na bicie, Apolonia (alebo jednoducho Poli či Mei) hrá na basu, Din a Samson sú naši gitaristi a ja som speváčka a autorka textov. Kapela vznikla, keď som ešte chodila na strednú školu, v roku 2021. Som jediná členka, ktorá zostala z pôvodnej zostavy.
Samson: Hrám rytmickú/druhú gitaru a som najnovší člen kapely. Asi pred rokom a pol som bol na svojom prvom koncerte EMT, na ktorý mi odporúčalo ísť veľa kamarátov. Potom som sa rýchlo dostal do miestnej deathrock/goth scény a spriatelil som sa s Nat a Dinom. Keď EMT hľadali druhého gitaristu, Nat sa ma spýtala, či sa nechcem pridať. Vtedy som nevedel hrať na gitare, ani poriadne držať brnkátko, ale všetci ma uistili, že sa rýchlo naučím všetko potrebné na hranie na pódiu. Počas posledného roka som sa veľa naučil a teraz som tu.
3. Aké hudobné a kultúrne zázemie ste si priniesli do kapely?
Din: Pochádzam z úplne nehudobného a neumeleckého prostredia, takže jediné, čo do tohto projektu prinášam, je moja antihudobná a abrazívna povaha.
Natt: Na strednej škole som chodila na hodiny extrémneho spevu, kde som sa naučila robiť scream. Počas detstva som absolvovala množstvo hodín spevu, ale bez úspechu. Myslím si, že v minulom živote som musela byť nejaké zviera, ktoré vydáva úplne atonálne zvuky, a potrebovala som čas, aby som sa to odnaučila. Keď vznikla kapela, začala som kombinovať rôzne vokálne techniky, aby som zakryla fakt, že vlastne vôbec neviem spievať. Kedysi som hrávala na gitare, ale už to nerobím. Skôr sa vnímam ako poetka a performerka než hudobníčka.
Samson: Pred vstupom do kapely som na gitare veľmi nehral, takže mám pocit, že stále objavujem rôzne hudobné cesty a vlastný štýl. Rád experimentujem s novými zvukmi, takže spolu s Dinom sa často snažíme dostať k zaujímavým nástrojom, ktoré by mohli kapelu obohatiť. Nedávno sa mi podarilo zohnať Danelectro sitar a dúfam, že ho dokážem zaujímavo využiť v niektorých budúcich skladbách.“
4. Máte aj „normálne životy“ popri kapele, alebo ste úplne ponorení do deathrocku vo dne v noci?
Natt: Tým, čím som, som naplno a stále, bez ohľadu na to, čo robím. Nevediem normálny život, som len akýsi horúčkový sen v ľudskej podobe.
Apolonia: Ak „normálny život“ zahŕňa topenie sa v desiatkach audio súborov, kazetách pre môj vlastný label, DIY koncertoch, ktoré si bookujem sama, a zároveň snahu zvládať prácu za barom, aby som to celé mohla financovať, tak áno, niečo z neho mi ešte ostalo <wink>. Aj cesta ku kapele s tým trochu súvisela. Keďže ma Natt poznala z predchádzajúcej kapely, v ktorej sme spolu pôsobili, spýtala sa ma, či nechcem hrať na basu v Eat My Teeth. Súhlasila som, aj keď som bola v tom čase trochu „mimo“ scény – a teraz sme tu o pár rokov neskôr, pričom kapela tvorí podstatnú časť môjho kreatívneho výstupu. Hoci som už dávno poznala a mala rada niektoré klasiky deathrocku, jeho históriu a význam – od momentu, keď som prvýkrát počula Theatre of Ice nahraných na YouTube v hroznej kvalite, spolu s celým tým dobrým, zlým aj bizarným z medzžánrových spoluprác a priateľstiev (typickým príkladom je experimentálna scéna 80. rokov) – aj tak som sa po vstupe cítila v scéne stále „nová“. Doťahovanie sa v tom, čo sa dialo v modernej histórii deathrocku, bolo vyčerpávajúcim, ale zábavným rýchlokurzom, ktorý vo mne znovu zapálil lásku k tomuto žánru, aj keď sa to prejavuje tým, že tie isté osobné klasiky počúvam s vášňou maniaka.
Samson: Bohužiaľ áno. Študujem inžinierstvo na univerzite a popritom mám klasickú prácu od deviatej do piatej. Zaberá mi to veľa času, ale mám rád túto dualitu „normálneho života“ a nočného deathrockového šialenstva.
Din: Neexistuje žiadny „normálny život“ mimo kapely. Musíme kradnúť, aby sme prežili, bojovať v kluboch a každý deň sa snažiť prežiť, aby sme mohli pokračovať v našom umení.
5. Varšava má dlhú punkovú a gotickú tradíciu – povedali by ste, že existuje nová generácia gothu, do ktorej Eat My Teeth patrí?
Natt: Áno, určite. S nárastom popularity goth subkultúry online v posledných rokoch začalo viac mladých ľudí chodiť na lokálne akcie a identifikovať sa so scénou. Vznikla nová mladá goth-punková scéna. Takmer každý si tu robí vlastnú vec – je to veľmi DIY, spoločensky angažované a mimoriadne kreatívne.
Samson: Určite áno. Na naše koncerty chodí veľa mladých ľudí, ktorí sa o túto subkultúru zaujímajú. V Poľsku si veľa mladých zakladá vlastné kapely a snaží sa robiť veci po svojom. Niektoré kapely vydržia dlhšie, iné kratšie, ale je super vidieť, že scéna žije.
6. Ktoré ďalšie kapely dnes formujú temnú scénu vo Varšave a aká je silná v porovnaní napríklad s obdobím pred 10–15 rokmi?
Natt: Din a Prot majú ešte dva ďalšie projekty – 25 Jesuses Of Fear a Mekanical Menagerie. Naši kamaráti z Poznane majú kapelu Apokalipstick. Neustále vznikajú nové kapely. Som však príliš mladá na to, aby som vedela porovnať, aká bola scéna pred 10–15 rokmi.
7. Existujú konkrétne kluby, DJs, promotéri alebo kapely, ktoré pomohli formovať cestu Eat My Teeth?
Natt: Som nesmierne vďačná Tomaszovi Woodrafovi z Return To The Batcave/Bat-cave Productions za jeho neustálu podporu. Rovnako som veľmi vďačná všetkým ľuďom, ktorí propagujú našu hudbu v zahraničí.
Samson: Ak by som mal spomenúť jedno konkrétne miesto vo Varšave, bol by to klub Chmury. Spoznal som tam veľa ľudí zo scény a koná sa tam množstvo skvelých lokálnych akcií, ktoré organizujeme my alebo iné kapely. Je to miesto, kde som EMT videl prvýkrát. Moja obľúbená akcia je tam „Friday I’m in Love“ – je to jednoducho 80s goth/synth-pop párty, ale chodí tam veľa mladých ľudí.“
8. Aké sú vaše obľúbené neresti a kde vo Varšave si ich najlepšie užívate?
Samson: Niekedy sa jednoducho rád úplne opijem a zhulím v klube, nič výnimočné. Rád tancujem, takže dokážem pařovať celú noc. Často chodím do už spomínaného klubu Chmury. Nemyslím si, že je na tom niečo zlé… až kým sa nezobudím na druhý deň ráno.
Natt: Mám rada bežné aj menej bežné veci. V textoch sa často dotýkam témy morálnej skazenosti a jej rôznych definícií, ktorú intenzívne skúmam, takže mnohé moje zvyky sa dajú nájsť práve tam. Vo Varšave mi chýba viac alternatívnych miest, najmä gothových, napriek tomu, že ide o hlavné mesto. Okrem Chmury mám rada aj ADA Puławska.
9. Aké sú vaše hlavné vplyvy — ktoré kapely a ktoré obdobia?
Natt: Som veľká fanúšička Rozza Williamsa. Mám rada raný deathrock, ktorý ešte nebol zviazaný žiadnymi pravidlami. A tiež dark punk z 2010-tych rokov. Namiesto atmosféry Halloweenu či gotického hororu ma priťahujú kapely so zvukom vlhkej skazy, ktoré sa dotýkajú temnoty nášho sveta, nie imaginárnych svetov. Mám rada množstvo žánrov a dokážem si nájsť niečo v rôznych smeroch. Ako mladšia tínedžerka som bola veľmi do visual kei, a stále ma to baví. Fascinujú ma umelci, ktorí posúvali hranice a vytvorili niečo jedinečné. V poslednom čase som posadnutá Wendy O. Williams a Kembrou Pfahler.
Din: Mojimi hlavnými vplyvmi sú kapely ako The Birthday Party, Les Tétines Noires, Lucrate Milk alebo Gang of Four. Vždy hľadám hudobníkov, ktorí sa nebáli byť sami sebou a kládli dôraz na sebavyjadrenie.
Samson: Z 80. rokov mám rád napríklad The Birthday Party, Tones on Tail, Specimen, Oingo Boingo, 45 Grave a The Cramps. Z deathrock revivalu by som spomenul hlavne Cinema Strange, Bloody Dead and Sexy a Mescaline Babies. Z okolia roku 2010 mám rád Cemetery a z novších vecí Cathaphiles a Shrouds.
10. Ako zvyčajne tvoríte hudbu? Pracujete na skladbách spoločne na skúškach, alebo každý prinesie nápady, ktoré potom skladáte dokopy ako kapela?
Din: Čo sa týka skladania, vždy ide o kolektívnu prácu – každý prinesie svoje nápady a príspevky a potom to dáme dokopy.
Natt: Niektorí z nás spolu bývajú, takže tvoríme neustále.
Apolonia: Väčšinou pracujeme na hudbe spoločne na skúškach alebo keď spolu trávime čas, aj keď nápad prinesie niekto konkrétny. Naše zázemie a hlavné záujmy sú veľmi rôznorodé – od goth/post-punku 80. rokov, dark cabaretu, cez industrial a experimentálnu scénu až po punk a hardcore. Niekedy to medzi sebou trochu naráža, ale občas to vedie k zaujímavým a nepochybne „našim“ výsledkom. Čo nás v scéne prekvapuje, je aj to, ako sa menia trendy – čoraz viac kapiel opúšťa moderný produkčný prístup z 2010-tych rokov s množstvom naprogramovanej elektroniky a prikláňa sa k surovejšiemu zvuku, ktorý mám osobne rada. Je super vidieť, ako sa goth a najmä deathrock mieša s rôznymi štýlmi, ktoré ešte neboli dostatočne preskúmané – napríklad s black metalom v USA alebo dokonca s heavy metalom a blues, ako to tento rok predviedli skvelí Poison Ruin.
11. Je ešte niečo, čo vás dokáže v goth alebo deathrocku prekvapiť — napríklad objavenie starej kapely či skladby, ktorú ste nikdy predtým nepočuli — alebo vás viac inšpiruje nová hudba?
Natt: Neustále objavujem nové veci. Baví ma, keď ma prekvapí stará hudba. Myslím si, že sa v priebehu rokov v goth žánroch ustálilo množstvo nepísaných pravidiel, ktoré obmedzujú kreativitu. Mám rada nové kapely, ktoré z týchto škatuliek unikajú.
Samson: K gothu a deathrocku som sa dostal len pred 2–3 rokmi, takže stále objavujem veľa nových vecí. Či už ide o nové veľké vydania alebo zabudnuté klenoty z 80. rokov, stále ma to baví. Zo starších vecí, na ktoré som narazil a veľmi sa mi páčia, by som spomenul Jimmy Smack alebo Cyan Revue.“

12. Vnímaš svoje texty ako osobné, politické alebo skôr symbolické? Máš pri písaní nejaké literárne alebo umelecké vplyvy?
Natt: Sú veľmi symbolické, často vychádzajú z môjho podvedomia. Preto sú zároveň extrémne osobné. A všetko je politické. Veľa hovorím o queer skúsenosti a závislosti, o spoločenskom tlaku a pocitoch sociálneho vylúčenia. Občas odkazujem na iné texty, v niektorých našich textoch používam citáty. Prvé dva riadky z „Now Act Dead“ sú citátom z Dada manifestu, prvé dva riadky v „Eat My Teeth“ pochádzajú z „Musíme sa porozprávať o Kevinovi“.
Samson: Keďže ja, Natt a Din bývame spolu, aby som pomohol s písaním nových skladieb, vkrádam sa uprostred noci do Nattovej izby a šepkám mu do ucha náhodné slová. Tak si potom myslí, že tie texty dostal vo sne od vyšších bytostí.
13. Nedávno ste vydali videoklip, ktorý akoby na týždne vyrazil ľuďom dych — ako vznikol jeho nápad a aké náročné bolo ho zrealizovať?
Natt: Nápad a plán na klip vznikli už na začiatku našej spolupráce s Apoloniou a Protom, keďže „No Harm“ bola prvá skladba, ktorú sme spolu v tejto kapele napísali. Motív môjho pochovania zaživa bol vlastne vizuálnym vyjadrením mojich pocitov, že ma niektorí ľudia zo scény, ale aj z osobného života „nechali za sebou“, keď som pre nich už nebol užitočný alebo využiteľný. Čo sa týka spracovania a statických záberov, chceli sme dosiahnuť znepokojujúci a surrealistický efekt. Mal som pritom v hlave tvorbu Suehira Marua, ktorou sa často inšpirujem. Mali sme šťastie na skvelých kamarátov — Małgorzatu Tomczak, ktorá klip režírovala a strihala, s ktorou sme hodiny vopred preberali naše nápady, a Aleksa Stukostracha, ktorý robil VHS zábery. Natáčanie trvalo jeden deň, pri scéne pochovávania sa už stmievalo. Všetci sme už boli unavení, takže sme ju museli niekoľkokrát opakovať. Mal som plné ústa hliny z cintorína.
14. Mali ste pocit, že reakcia na klip bola obzvlášť silná? Otvorilo vám to nejaké nové možnosti — napríklad koncerty, spolupráce alebo iné príležitosti?
Natt: Myslím, že reakcia bola silná, áno — prevažne pozitívna. Bolo to veľmi povzbudzujúce a motivujúce. Určite sa o nás vďaka tomu dozvedeli noví ľudia, myslím si, že vizuál robí veľa. Ako kapela sme veľmi vizuálni a som rád, že sme to mohli ukázať aj vo videoklipe. Ťažko sa však určuje, ktoré príležitosti prišli práve vďaka nemu a ktoré z iných zdrojov.
15. Aké máte plány s vydávaním nového materiálu?
Apolonia: Nový materiál vzniká pomaly, ale isto, a keď bude pripravený vypustiť sa do sveta, určite o tom budete vedieť. Keďže sme veľkí fanúšikovia kaziet, radšej si už teraz zožeňte kazetový prehrávač — je dosť možné, že to bude jediný fyzický formát, v ktorom tohtoročná hudba vyjde. Platí to pre nové aj staršie skladby, ktoré konečne vydáme pre všetkých, čo po našich koncertoch chceli viac. Koncertné plány ostávajú rovnaké — zapĺňať slepé miesto medzi punkom a gothom. Čakajte nás (alebo nie!) ako sa plížime medzi crusties aj prekvapujeme darkwave publikum.
16. V akých formátoch to plánujete vydať — fyzicky, digitálne alebo oboje?
Natt: EP-čka a albumy určite vyjdú v oboch formátoch. Single zatiaľ skôr ostanú len digitálne.
17. Ste skôr fanúšikmi kazetovej kultúry alebo vinylov?
Natt: Vďaka labelu Apolonie je pokračovanie kazetových vydaní isté. Mám rád oboje, ale v každodennom živote počúvam viac vinyl — hlavne preto, že sa mi pokazil kazetový prehrávač…
18. Môžeme tento rok očakávať ďalšie cool videá od Eat My Teeth?
Natt: Máme v hlave množstvo nápadov — otázkou je len čas, kedy uzrú svetlo nočného mesiaca.
19. Aké koncertné plány máte na rok 2026?
Natt: 13. júna organizujeme 4. ročník festivalu Warsaw HEX&SEX, 25. júna budeme strašiť na Dark Decay Festival. V auguste zahráme na Borderline Fest a v septembri sa po prvýkrát predstavíme vo Fínsku na Musta Juhla.
20. Poznáte nejaké zaujímavé kapely zo Slovenska, Česka, Maďarska alebo Rakúska? Máte s týmito krajinami alebo scénami nejaké spomienky či asociácie?
Apolonia: Z regiónu ma vždy fascinovalo množstvo zaujímavých projektov naprieč umeleckým a experimentálnym undergroundom — napríklad Veselí Filištínové, Kampec Dolores a samozrejme stále aktívny MCH Band, ale aj novšie kapely ako noise rockoví Sinks (pozdravujeme vás, ak to čítate!). Zároveň som si vždy cenila prácu lokálnych nezávislých labelov, najmä pri hľadaní kaziet v obchodoch počas návštev Česka. Shout out Stoned to Death a Korobushka Records!
Samson: Začiatkom roku 2026 sme hrali v Ostrave. Počas toho koncertu sme zistili, že kapela, ktorá mala hrať s nami, výrazne využíva AI vo svojom projekte. My sme striktne proti používaniu AI v hudbe a umení, takže sme ich počas vystúpenia spolu s publikom bojkotovali. Bolo super vidieť, že toľko mladých ľudí sa nezaujíma len o vizuál subkultúry, ale stojí pevne aj za jej punkovými koreňmi. Potom sme mali skvelý koncert a po ňom sme s ľuďmi z publika poriadne oslavovali.
21. Ktorý hudobný album, videoklip a kniha ťa v poslednom čase najviac zaujali?
Samson: Dinova druhá kapela 25 Jeasuses Of Fear nedávno vydala videoklip k novému singlu „Alienated Mind“. Možno som zaujatý, keďže som videl celé natáčanie v našej obývačke, ale je super vidieť finálny výsledok ich práce.
Natt: Nedávno som čítal „What About The Bells?“ a okrem toho sa ponáram do rôznych okultných textov. Posledné dni som veľa počúval „The Anti-Naturalists“ od The Voluptous Horror Of Karen Black.
22. Je nejaký umelec alebo kapela, ktorých by ste radi videli v rozhovore pre JDØS?
Natt: Je veľa skvelých umelcov. Osobne by som rád videl rozhovory napríklad s El Angel Exterminador, The Last Oath alebo Moira Scar.
23. Ďakujeme za rozhovor — nejaké záverečné slová?
Samson: Choďte na lokálne koncerty, podporujte malé kapely, robte DIY a založte si vlastnú kapelu. Z vlastnej skúsenosti viem, že nezáleží na tom, či ste niekedy predtým hrali na gitaru alebo nie.
Natt: Buďte verní sami sebe, nebojte sa hovoriť svoj názor — a nebojte sa ho aj zmeniť. Zapájajte sa do lokálnej scény a dávajte pozor na bezpečnosť jeden druhého.
