R: Ze Reno Raines funguje dalej

R: No mame dohodnuty koncert v Prahe, tak tam asi pojdeme zanotit. Osobne idem teraz este do Brna, lebo hram aj v dalsich kapelach.

Hlavne stretnúť kamošov a známych.

Najsmutnejšia, najstrašnejšia a najzábavnejšia scéna vo filme, ktorú si vieš vybaviť.

R: Najsmutnejsia: dokumentarny film „lesny duch bukovec“- ked musel rozrucat klobasu kolo ohna, aby ziskal cas a unikol smrti; Najstrasnejsia: dokumentarny film „lesny duch bukovec“- najvernejsie pazvuky demona ake boli vyprodukovane; Najzabavnejsia: dokumentarny film „lesny duch bukovec“ – som nedavno videl po dlhsom case

P: Nedávno som videl čiernu komédiu, čo mi utkvela v pamäti. Kurz negatívneho myslenia... scény vo filme sa prelínali do fajných absurdít.

Čo hovoríš na tieto songy:

R:No pocuval som ich postupne tako:

som preklikal bo sak 9 minut, a blastbit nikde, ani blekove „tu ta tu ta“ som nenasiel, ale zato som objavil hevymetalove solo a romanticku akusticku pasaz.

Vyborny hardkor. Pustil som si rovno 2x a potom cele demo, a nebolo to prvy krat

Dobry stoner. Super album.

Miešanie vzbudzuje vo mne údiv a bez neho by to nešlo.

V akom veku majú odchádzať rockeri do dôchodku ? :)

R: Cakat s tym do 15tich je uz asi dost hanba. Najlepsie sa takejto zivotnej etape uplne vyhnut.

P: Keď neudrží gitarista trsátko...?

Koho ďaľšieho na scéne mám otravovať ?

Napis volaco aj ty.

=========================================================================

Tell me something about your latest recording — who worked on it, how it came together, which song is your favorite and why?

R: The latest recording is eight songs sitting on my hard drive, waiting for me to get my act together — make some visuals, write down the lyrics, and put it on Bandcamp. It was just me and Peťo, because DIY are three beautiful letters.
We made it in the rehearsal room over a few sessions, and that’s where we recorded it too — I only took the mix and master home as homework. My favorite is the third one, because I don’t have to work too hard on it and it still has energy (at least for me).
The last recording we’ve actually released — and which should hopefully appear on a physical format soon — was made the same way, but besides the two of us, we also collaborated with Tadeáš S.D. We’d founded Cameleon with him back in high school under a different name, but we never recorded or played live. He gave us two of his lyrics for this one. My favorite track from that is the first one, because it’s short.

P: The last record (Rotocrusher) came together quite gradually. Before that, I was working on a vegetable farm in Norway, and that’s where I came across a rotocrusher. It’s actually a machine for crushing stone, asphalt, concrete... A truly majestic, rusty beast, buried in its own rubble. A Killdozer of sorts.
Six months away from home turned into parts of the lyrics and riffs I played on a battered Spanish guitar. Then, once we were back in the same time and space again, it naturally evolved into the Rotocrusher EP.

What piece of cultural or artistic news has recently made you happy?

R: That Reno Raines is still going strong.

P: I’m always happy when someone tells me, “Hey, you should listen to this, check that out, it’s worth it...” It doesn’t even have to be something new. Musically, I recently fell in love with Duster – Stratosphere (1998).

What’s the last thing that really pissed you off?

R: Nothing major comes to mind. I’m constantly annoyed by people who “guard” various traditions and values. But honestly, almost anyone can piss me off.

P: I can’t recall anything specific, but I made a rule that getting pissed off three times a day is healthy. It tones your muscles and all that... Everyone needs a positive emotion like anger once in a while. The problem is when someone overdoes it — or worse, bottles it up. Eventually, their lid might just blow off.

If you could be born in the past, when and who would you like to be?

R: Well, I actually was born in the past, and so far the times suit me fine. I’d like to be a skinhead, but I don’t have braces or a shirt.

P: I’m happy being right where I am.

Which upcoming events are you heading to as a band, and where are you personally planning to go?

R: We’ve got a show booked in Prague, so we’ll probably go make some noise there. Personally, I’m also heading to Brno, since I play in a few other bands too.

P: I don’t keep a separate event calendar, but when I’ve got the time I like to go to gigs — mostly to see friends and familiar faces. The last one I went to was Nazi Tampons and Lidské Zdroje. As a band, we should be playing in Prague at the end of October, and I’m really looking forward to that.

The saddest, scariest, and funniest movie scene you can recall?

R: Saddest: the documentary Forest Spirit Bukovec — when he had to throw sausages around the fire to buy time and escape death. Scariest: Forest Spirit Bukovec — the most authentic demon sounds ever recorded. Funniest: Forest Spirit Bukovec — I watched it again recently after a long time.

P: I recently saw a black comedy that stuck with me — The Art of Negative Thinking. The scenes in that movie blend into a pleasant kind of absurdity.

What do you think about these songs:

R: I listened to them one by one like this:

– (Pinoreks) I managed to listen for 2 minutes.
– (Hrobar) I managed to listen for 25 seconds.
– (Sever) I just skipped through it, too long for me and didn’t grab me. The sound was done well though.
– (Christ Agony) I skipped through it again — nine minutes long and no blast beat, no black-metal “tu ta tu ta,” but I did find a heavy metal solo and a romantic acoustic passage.
– (Incriminate) Excellent hardcore. I played it twice in a row and then the whole demo — not my first time.
– (Nikander) Good stoner. Great album. Too bad they don’t play anymore, but I listened to the whole song and even nodded along.

P: To sum it up — Incriminate and Nikander are both awesome!!!

Should music genres and subcultures mix, or is “genre purity” better?

R: I personally enjoy genre mixing. But it’s a matter of taste. Some stuff is unlistenable nonsense to me, other stuff hits the spot. Genre purity can be fine too — especially when you play d-beat — but with some bands it bothers me that I already know their songs before I even hear them. I guess it depends on what kind of atmosphere or energy they put into it. It all comes down to taste. Both are great — as long as people play.

P: Definitely mixing. Everything gets labeled anyway, but it means absolutely nothing. Mixing inspires wonder in me — and without it, music wouldn’t move forward.

At what age should rockers retire? :)

R: Waiting until 15 is already kind of shameful. Best to skip that phase altogether.

P: When the guitarist can’t hold a pick anymore...?

Who else on the scene should I bother with?

R: Write something yourself, too.
