Every now and then, an album comes along full of instrumentation and
potential that I sit back for a long moment and think, God I love my
job! And Skrz Mámor by the Zvolen-based group
Raznutra is one of such albums that affects me in this way. Right from
the get-go, listeners are almost hypnotised by the haunting grunts of
something unknown, possibly a golem or a crocodile with constipation, as
Všetky cesty (All roads) opens up the journey across the marble so to
speak. And except for this track, all the songs on the album have just
one-word titles. Odpojení (Disconnected) is the first composition you will hear with
all the instruments played together, and although the vocals sound a bit
off-key (just a tad), the song itself is really good with cool bass
riffs and laden with heavy energy. And regarding the vocals, I’m not
saying that they are bad, in fact, I like them very much, as they sound a
bit like Sid Vicious singing Frank Sinatra in My Way (Hmnn, I see a
connection of sorts). But the vocalist sounds way better when he belts
it out and lets it all go. You can hear his passion in Vedenie
(Leading), which is my personal favourite on the album. And even better,
the female harmonisation in the background adds the perfect touch to a
very catchy tune, keeping me hooked to the sound and melody. Actually,
you will hear a lot of interesting stuff throughout the album, from
light guitars and heavy chords (Prúd) to haunting instrumentals (Všetky
cesty (All roads) and Vrstvy (Layers)).
One of the standouts of Skrz Mámor is the final track Nova, where the
album culminates into a near-epic composition full of psychedelic
guitar riffs and heavy power chords. The singing is really good here, as
are the drum beats, since they are not the usual heavy bass thuds that
one might think would be played on such a track. And that’s why I enjoy
this album, every song contains original elements apart from the others.
For a first album, I give the band a big thumbs up on this one. As I
said above, there is a lot of potential with this group and if they can
keep their chemistry alive and kicking, they will go far in the
industry.
M: Nadhľad a veľká vatra.
5. Ako definujete osobnú úplnosť?
D: Ako stav, kedy človek vie, čo je a čo nie je a naplňuje svoj potenciál.
M: Ako nedosiahnuteľný stav vnútornej harmónie. Jednoty protikladov - svetla a tieňa, animy a animusa, mikro-sveta a makro-sveta, vnútrajšku a vonkajšku.
6. Máte v okolí prameň s magickými vlastnosťami?
D: Za plotom, vedľa skúšobne nám tečie rieka a v nej občas zomrie veľké množstvo rýb vďaka neďalekým fabrikám.
9. Ako si predstavujete večnosť?
D: Večnosť si predstavujem ako nekonečnú čiernu prázdnotu bez reality.
M: Večnosť je všetko. Bez konca a bez začiatku. Je to had, čo si žerie chvost. Je to všetko, čo bolo, čo je a čo bude. Všetky paralely a možnosti existencie postavené mimo kauzalitu času a matérie, a tým pádom prejavené vo svojej plnej forme, ktorá je danou a potenciálnou zároveň.
Hysterical kid in the kitchen breaking stuff, two older brothers
laughing at him and stealing food from each other’s plates. Me locked in
a bedroom enjoying my heavy antihistamine trip after 4th day of
biscuits and black tea allergy elimination diet. Swollen body itching
and cell phone franticly beeps with every new work escalation message.
Another sleepless night coming, gotta be ready but before then let’s use
30 minutes of my nervous breakdown to do something useless.
I am searching through my recently purchased vinyls and MC tapes, looking for something that accurately reflects the state of my current existence and I pick up the 12”EP split by Czech punk/crust bands Vole and Brünner Todesmarsch. I am starting with Vole who contributed on this split with 4 angry tracks. Vole play fast punk based on dominant bass riffs and screams that are accompanied with distorted guitars and blasting beats. When listening how guitar complements the bass it’s obvious that these are no random riffs but thoughtful compositions. What’s even more obvious is that these guys know their craft and are skilled musicians with many years of drill in Prague UG punk and metal bands. The sound is tight, no space for mistakes. I can relate to lyrics “I am paying only more / Yet my dreams / I can barely see” Lovec práce (Chasing work), “People are sickening / Beat them, beat them, beat them” Chcípni (Drop dead) which captivates me with its guitar solo or “I hate your band, hating themselves / Just kick me already / I don’t deserve to live” Pro všechny co jsem urazil (For all those I’ve offended) which has a truly beautiful gradation/fade-out at the end. Ty vole, this band rocks from another level not just in their live shows but on the records as well.
Kid in the other room still screaming … “no TV today” the wife
announces, and all hell turns loose. I increase the volume and switch to
Brünner Todesmarsch – fast grindcore with d-beat rhythms. Boy, this is
fast stuff – three accords, bass and guitar playing unisono riffs, drums
blasting, vocals are spoken in a very phrased fashion accompanied with
growls and screams not only by the male vocalist Miruus but also by
Kremace – female vocalist known from sludge/stoner Brno based bands Slať
and Nikander (I am wondering if I should also give credit to my kid
screaming in the other room contributing to the overall vocal experience
but I am deciding not to). Lyrics of Brünner Todesmarsch are social,
delivering the message about meaninglessness of an individual existence.
Since I haven’t eaten in four days, I can relate to that message
better. This music rips and kicks, there’s no time for relax. “You’re
just a number too / You’re a cliché like in a punk song.” Povstání
uvnitř i vně (Rebellion inside and out” is the last track that closes
with a short outro.
The album is over but what is this? Feeling of meaninglessness persists. I found myself living in a punk/grindcore reality. I went from obliteration to enslavement, saw living Frankenchrist and then went back again. Or are these bands
creating an artistic vision of the world so accurate that I fluently
move from music on/off and vice versa without any difference? I suppose
that’s the case. Thank you Vole and Brünner Todesmarsch for composing a
symphony to my reality of this week. Something I can relate to, knowing I
am not alone in this. 6 more days of black tea and biscuits. I am just a
number and I am ready.
V: Vsetko sme nahrali bez zbytocneho vymyslania v nasej skusobni a to hlavne vdaka nasmu sikovnemu R. Taktiez pri nahravani padlo zopar piv.

V: Koncertovat, koncertovat a koncertovat.

V: Skusit 70s California

Stivovu tvorbu dost zeriem a toto nieje vynimka.
V: Super kapela a song, jedna z mojich prvych platni. Skoda toho konca. Tu este odporucam dokument Stiv a dalsiu tvorbu The Lords of the New Church ci The Wanderers.

V: Ani ani
R: Fuu neviem ja som v kapele len kvoli pivam zadarmo.
V: Aj aj. Jedno nevylucuje druhe.
It’s always fun listening to punk performed well, especially when it
is produced in far away places like Košice, Slovakia. I mean, Košice is
hardly a small village, in fact, it’s population is around 300,000 with a
substantial working class. Its massive steelworks and ominous commie
blocks provide the perfect backdrop of inspiration for punk rock bands.
There are loads of social issues in this neck of the woods, supplying an
endless amount of topics and content to sing about. And thus, Pipesh is
the sort of group that would hardly surprise anyone by their music.
Their debut album Maschinerie is full of catchy guitar and bass riffs,
with several of their compositions leaning towards hardcore punk with
touches of alternative and, at times, heavy doses of thrash. And yet,
their sound can hardly be called noise, even though it does at many
times appear to play havoc on the nervous system. Take for instance the
opening track Mesuge maschine, which is a good example of Pipesh’s fresh
sound, at least as far as punk goes, since the music and vocals are all
audible with nothing being drowned out or buried in feedback and
distortion. Each of the instruments stands out on their own, and, like
the rest of the album, the bass gets a lot of the limelight with tracets
and solos abounding. And because of this, there’s an element of funk in
their sound that keeps things lively, like drinking a triple espresso
on an empty stomach. Your heart may not thank you for it, but your blood
circulation will.
I particularly like the second track Panický Záchvat (Panic seizure)
with its sped-up parts and overall energy. It’s a really cool tune that
could easily whip up a mosh pit when played live. And as I continue to
listen on, I begin to really like this group. Another gem is Dilema
which is a nicely-written composition that displays the band’s
creativity best. Pipesh demonstrates that they are not just a run of the
mill garage band, but in fact, talented musicians and composers. And if
you think about it, a lot of attention is paid to each individual
instrument and the vocal progressions. Pablo song is another example
along these lines, with all the instruments and beats playing together
in heavy unison. The album concludes with Strach (Fear) and, like
everything else on this album, this track too stays true to Pipesh’s
original style and visceral sound.
Overall, I give this album high marks, especially in the areas of
creativity and originality, as well as sound. This is a young band with
loads of potential and it is obvious that a lot of effort and time was
put into creating and producing this album. It is sung entirely in
Slovak, so it may not appeal to a wider audience, but it should satisfy
many from the homegrown scene. In any case, anyone would have a great
time at their shows, regardless of whether they understand the lyrics or
not. Their energy alone is enough to unite all fans of punk and
hardcore. Thumbs up to Pipesh for sure.
Hral som v kapelách Stay Love, The reckless, Third Strain, Bitch I am Ninja, Miriel Feanor, Intercity, Smelser, v svojich akustických projektoch Berry / Sam the Jew, dalsich projektoch Elisheva, La Bella Luna, a aktuálne v projekte Woodeater + mnoho ďaľších kolaborácií.
Na čom a cez čo hráš/spievaš a ako si spokojný so svojou výbavou?
Zažil som perfektné nahrávacie štúdiá, no svoje projekty robím na štýl 90tkového nórskeho blacku a kebyže mám kazeťák Hello kitty, nahrám to cez to, takže iphone a starý comp s cracknutým Cubase postačí.
Aktuálny pocit a dianie okolo mňa. To čo prežívam, väčšinou z nejakej veselosti či dobrej nálady songy neskladám. Skôr niečo zlé prežijem a potom to ventilujem v hudbe.
Ktorú skladbu, a ktorý text vlastnej kapely by si vyzdvihol ?
Ťažko povedať, za tie roky ale najviac som mal rád svoje kapely Miriel Feanor (pesnička Plethora) & Intercity - When moon goes down
Chcel by som ešte dokončiť projekt, a stretnút super ľudí, ktorí by mali záujem naozaj tvoriť.
Bodka
Ktorý zvuk (štúdio, album/kapela), artwork (album cover) a videoklip na domácej scéne ťa zaujal najviac ?
Shallov, Old tomb, Besna
Hudobný album, kniha, film, seriál, počítačová hra, tetovacie štúdio a pivo ktoré odporúčaš.
Album- Drug Church - Cheer, kniha- Hesse - Stepny vlk, film - Málmhaus, Mr.Pickles, Dave Mira bmx, Misfits tattoo shop, pivo - Tchíne v pezinskej pivární v Trnave
Heavy, heavier, heaviest is how Kladivo Intolerence (Hammer of
Intolerance) could be summed up. It starts heavy and gets heavier as the
tracks progress, an album of grandiose proportions, with particular
emphasis placed heavily on the bass and drums. It’s like filling up an
old Harley with cheap diesel and hitting the accelerator at full speed.
This album rumbles and makes the ground shake.
And if I’m correct, this is the Prague-based band’s first full-length
release, although they are hardly new to the black metal scene.
Bahratal consists of members from Vole, V0nt and Lezok, and possibly
other groups from Prague and Czechia. Yet their brand of black metal is
different from their parent groups by choosing to stay away from long,
atmospheric or ambient compositions (except for possibly Outro, the
closing track). Their sound is fast and hard and reminiscent of a biker
gang cruising at high speed. And like their previous Eps, Bahratal
dispels any illusions about life satisfaction or a happy, harmonious
world, choosing instead to reveal the darkness of the human interior.
Also interesting to note is that the overall content is quite “urban”,
both lyrically and musically. None of it derives from medieval folklore
or legends from the Carpathians, which is typical of the Czech and
Slovak brand of black metal themes.
But Bahratal is also a place in Germany and not far from the Czech
border. It’s a haven for hikers and rock climbers and perhaps does have a
certain mystique to it. In any case, it makes a great name for a
hardcore band, something like “battery” or “beating”. And this assault
on the senses is alive in all the tracks, you can hear it right off the
bat with Zeme lyr a oceli (Earth of Lyre and Steel). This intro is a
perfect example of the “heavy, heavier, heaviest” metaphor I began this
review with. There’s loads of build-up and major cathartic blow-out
around the middle mark, as if the vocals and guitars were unleashed from
a dark and foreboding crypt. And the fury remains with the title track
and Brambory a chmel (Potatoes and Hops), raw energy and epileptic speed
that would send anyone into a seizure (the thunder clap and rain at the
end is epic). Baba Vanga (Granny Vanga) is a tad slower and the
seamless transition into this track with the haunting bells are no doubt
intriguing. Still, this track is no less heavy nor furious than any of
the previous tracks. It oozes with painful emotion and unsurprisingly
bursts into anger around the 3-minute mark. The vocals are just amazing.
Then Demiurguv knir (untranslatable, or possibly Demiurge's mustache
according to Google translate) starts very melodic, and for a moment I
anticipate a ballad of some sort. But no, it picks up very abruptly
after a minute or so and it is here that classic elements of black metal
shine brightly. Personally, this is my favourite track on the album
because I love the low and high notes of the guitar and the overall
composition of this song. Jablko poznani (The Apple of Knowledge) is
another amazing track before the album closes quietly with Outro. This
is the only place in the album where you will hear ambience and dark
moods as it is entirely instrumental without the guitar, bass or drums.
Overall, I give this album high marks for creativity and keeping
things as “heavy as possible”. These guys have real talent on their
instruments as well as in their song writing. The only complaint I have
about Kladivo Intolerence is that it isn’t long enough! Can’t wait to
hear more!
I am so pleased to know that punk is not dead. In fact, it’s far from
it. Ahoj, the post punk foursome from Western Slovakia, showcases a
captivating and highly energetic mini Lp with their second release
Stres.
If you are into this sort of style, a mix of hardcore and punk that
blends elements of 90s punk and emo where all the tracks begin and end
at the blink of an eye (all seven tracks last a minute and change),
you’ll totally dig this disc from start to finish. Ahoj is fronted by a
female singer who keeps the testosterone levels at a healthy balance.
Punk and fans of punk love this trend, since it’s not Pussy Riot by any
means, nor is it Courtney Love and Hole, but more of the classic
hardcore punk rock styles with grassroots from the 70s and 90s. There’s
no alpha male with “lead singer syndrome” driving the group down a path
of doom and early forgottenness, nor any intent to eventually sellout to
the mainstream.
I quite like this album and hear a lot of future potential for this
band. Take for instance the opening track, which is also called Ahoj
(Hello), a quick instrumental bit that sends a brief, but positive
signal to the listener. Yet it gets negative pretty quickly with Ti sere
na tvár (They shit on your face) and the dynamic energy of Ahoj really
grabs your attention and doesn’t want to let go.
The album is loaded with explosive instrumentation and introspection.
No Future is a classic title and theme for any punk rocker (think Sex
Pistols), keeping in mind that Stres was released when chaos and
uncertainty dominates our lives. The album itself was only released only
a few weeks ago at the end of April, 2023, right before their upcoming
mini Euro tour.
While there is still room for experimentation, there are moments
where the songwriting could have been a bit more adventurous. But the
band does demonstrate the ability to deliver a captivating sound and
message in all their tracks, and so there’s no fear of getting bored
when listening to this album. My favourite is the closing Nula Respekt
(Zero Respect), which has a lot of depth as well as rough and smooth
textures, in that the song was written well, but never gives in to a
polished composition. I also wouldn’t say that the production was
anything special, but then again, this is post punk that leans heavily
on its roots from decades past, with no bling or added effects, and so
the mixing and production stays in line with the raw edginess of the
music itself. Nevertheless, the group leaves a long-lasting impact and
I’m sure their live performances are full of infectious energy.
Definitely a band to keep inside the radar in 2023.
Víta a teď Phosgene Girls. Mimo to ještě Karel fungoval v projektu Kruté Loutky a Ála s Jrikou zas ve Skrytém pohybu.
Na čom a cez čo hráš/spievaš a ako si spokojný so svojou výbavou?
Ála: TC Helicon, Waldorf Q
Jirka: Aktuálně mám kytaru Ibanez, zesilovač EVH 5150 a několik kytarových efektů.
Karel: Šlo o jeden song pro kompilaci Dark Tunes form Czech and Slovak caves vol III., nahráli jsme to amatérsky ve zkušebně, mix a master dělal VeNa (ex-No Name Desire)
Čo ťa najviac ovplyvňuje pri tvorbe ?
Ála: Nevím, je to potřeba těla, roste to v tobě, zraje a ty pak sklízíš. Hraješ a tóny k tobě přichází, z venčí, vnímáš skrze senzory. Zároveň jsi tím zřídlem a ty a prostor kolem tebe jste jedno. Je to expanze těla.
Jirka: Ovlivňuje mě aktuální rozpoložení a improvizace v ten daný moment.
My jsme spíš na ty temnější věci
Karel: Tohle neřeším, je mi to fuk.
Jirka: To ne, poslouchám toho moc, napříč žánry a obdobími.
Karel: Do určité míry to budou osmdesátá léta minulého století s mírným přesahem do počátku devadesátek, kdy vzniklo asi nejvíc pro mě zásadních desek.
Jirka: Trendy a subkultury moc neřeším. Mám své oblíbené kapely, bez ohledu na žánr, a rád objevuju neustále něco nového.
Karel: Nevím, aktuálně trendy nesleduji a o žádných tím pádem nevím.
Neumím to oddělit. V samotné hudbě či jiné tvorbě žádné hranice nevnímám.
Ktorý zvuk (štúdio, album/kapela), artwork (album cover) a videoklip na domácej scéne ťa zaujal najviac ?
Ála: koncert Ing a Lolita - je hustý, kam až je někdo schopnej zajít (hahaha)
Jirka: Z domácích kapel bych jmenoval třeba kapely Insania, Priessnitz, Vanessa, Kaviar Kavalier, Mortal Cabinet.
Pak bych vyzdvihl poslední počin The Last Days of Jesus – :On Black:.
Jirka: Album: Editors - EBM, Iggy PoP – Every Loser, Ministry – Moral Hygiene.
Karel: Nějaké desky jsem už zmínil výše, přidám ještě třeba Opened Paradise - Buried In Rain. Z knih například Umberto Eco – Jméno růže. Film Monty Python: Život Briana a jinak bych doporučil vyhýbat se hollywoodským výplachům mozku, na seriály nekoukat a počítačový hry nehrát. A hlavně nepít slabá piva!
Adam Puna’s soft and simple melodies of alternative lo-fi rhythms and
beats are a refreshing change to the Florkster’s ears. Strach z Búrky
is an easy listening 6-track Ep and gives me the impression that the
artist is passionate about performing and creating original music. All
the sounds on Strach z Búrky were made by Adam himself, as well as the
mixing and mastering, and thus, such „solo“ projects like these get high
marks in my books. It takes a certain kind of soul who can pour their
heart into this kind of project and produce an original piece that
reflects the artist’s character and essence of being.
Each track has its own special vibe, beginning with Fatamorgány
(Mirages), a lively bass-driven tune with echo vocal harmonies and
gentle highlights of the keyboards both in the background and
foreground. This is followed by útlm (Decay), which is a little bit
darker than the previous track, but no less entertaining. And as I
listen to the album, I become more impressed by the overall product,
especially the vocal harmonies. The songs themselves are quite short,
but my guess is that Adam intended them to be this way. Like Cudzinci
(Strangers), a cool tune lasting a mere minute and seventeen seconds
Overall, when I compare Strach z Búrky with Adam’s previous works,
such as Ruptures in the Library, which was sung in English and way
mellower than the present album, or Storm, his first Ep released a few
years back and entirely instrumental (and pretty cool too with a
haunting, very ghost-like vibe to it), I would say that Strach z Búrky
is a progressive developement, especially in terms of beats and vocals.
It’s entirely in Slovak and thus would entertain a local audience more
than an international one. But that’s probably the whole point: grab the
attention of those around you and take satisfaction in their fun and
pleasure.
As an artist, Adam Puna definitely can compete with all the major
players on the scene, especially since he is well-versed on the
recording and production side of things. Strach z Búrky is original and
never boring for a moment.
