#40 Flork Reviews: God and Eve - The Fastest Way to Deep Clean a House (2022)

God and Eve – The Fastest Way to Deep Clean a House (EP 2021)

By Flork

Describing the 4-song Ep by God and Eve is a bit tricky. On one hand, I imagine myself in a smoky, beatnik poetry café with dark, graffiti walls and chewing gum stuck to the floor. On the other, there’s a definite class to the music, especially the crafty lyrics and talented singing abilities that are expressed from the front lady’s vocal cords. I guess I would say that it’s something like choosing a Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz over a draft or bottled beer. Even a double Scotch and soda would be appropriate while chilling to the sounds of the quartet from Bratislava. The ambience is so chill that a beer somehow wouldn’t seem right. But I’m sure you’d be forgiven if a Stella or two were included in your drink order, since this band also has a rough edge about them. You wouldn’t doubt me if I said that these guys wouldn’t have any problems booking gigs at either stinky watering holes or uptown jazz cafés. This is a first-class group that rocks some kind of genre that probably doesn’t include rock in its name.

To start, the cabaret-style atmosphere opens with a 2-part track called Decisions. Part 1 is full of funky guitar rifts that complement the vocalists singing and picks up weight and depth at the end of the track. Eva Sajanová’s singing is certainly classy, but also has a razor-sharp edge that heightens the raunchiness of the instruments. The track is even better in Part 2 of Decisions as it adds piano along with several vocal harmonisations. God and Eve master this combination beautifully and transition smoothly to the Perfect Song. Yes, the Perfect Song, track three, which is a great name for this soulful tune as Eva demonstrates her remarkable vocal abilities. It becomes clear at this point that hers and the band’s talent is diverse and exudes an abundance of sexiness. Perfect Song is a great name for the track, as is the name of the band and album too, and I can’t wait to listen to their previously-released stuff.

The all-too-short Ep ends with Dear Diary, which is an awesome example of alternative art jazz. However, this is hardly the best label if they were classified into a specific genre, since they incorporate elements of rock, pop, and neo soul into their sound as well. Undoubtedly though, The Fastest Way to Deep Clean a House is certainly not long enough with only 14 minutes or so of music, since it leaves the listener with a desire to hear more. Hopefully these guys will put out a full-length album in the near future and that I get the chance to review it too.
